How It Works & Methodology

Open by design, built on trust

TLH Vision is a community-powered platform for imagining our future, discovering shared priorities, and helping turn common ideas into collaborative action. Here is exactly how it works and how your information is handled.

An open, independent initiative

TLH Vision is an independent community initiative. It is designed to welcome ideas from people across Tallahassee and the Capital Region, regardless of background, organization, or point of view.

What information we collect

When you share a vision, we ask for a first name or nickname, your ZIP code, and your vision statement. You can optionally add your role in the community (for example, teacher, student, or small business owner) and an email address. Email is only used to reach you if you raise your hand to help move a theme forward.

Why we ask for your ZIP code

ZIP code lets us show how participation is spread across Tallahassee and the Capital Region. It helps the community see which areas are represented and where more voices are needed. We never ask for or store your street address.

What is shown publicly

Your vision statement is public, along with the first name or nickname you provide, your role if you share one, and your ZIP code. Your email address is never shown publicly and is never included in any public data, download, or summary.

Your name

Your name is optional. A first name or nickname appears on your public vision card; leave the field blank and your vision appears as “Anonymous”. Your email and ZIP code are never shown publicly.

How submissions are moderated

Every submission runs through automated screening for profanity, spam, and duplicates. Clean submissions publish immediately; flagged submissions are held until an administrator reviews them. Not every submission is read by a person before it appears. Visitors can report a published vision, and reported items are reviewed by administrators. A bot-verification check runs on the submission form when it is configured; if it is unavailable, submitting is paused rather than accepted without it.

How duplicates are handled

The platform automatically detects when the same person tries to submit the identical statement twice, so an accidental double-submission will not appear more than once. This helps keep the community picture accurate.

How themes are identified

Topics you choose yourself are kept as you chose them. When a submission has no chosen topics, the platform may infer themes from its central ideas, and some visions stay uncategorized. A vision can belong to more than one theme. Trends reflect submitted ideas only and are not a representative survey of the community.

Whether AI is used

AI is optional and only appears in the guided builder, where it can turn the words and priorities you choose into a draft vision statement. You always review, edit, and approve the statement before anything is submitted. A vision is never generated and submitted on your behalf, and AI never changes a statement you write yourself.

How aggregated information may be shared

Community insights, such as counts, top themes, ZIP participation, and trends over time, may be shared to help residents and organizations understand common priorities and differences. These are always presented in aggregate. Private details like your email are never part of what is shared.
